What the year added up to

1.2 million tonnes of CO2e issued and retired since 2022, net of buffer, across eleven countries and three registries. 2025 alone added 447,600 tonnes, the first year that every region ran on the v3.1 methodology.

The number we are proudest of is a zero: no tonne issued since 2022 has been disputed or reversed. The number we are least proud of is six percent, which is how much we overstated the 2022 Saxony vintage before we found the sampling error.

Where the tonnes are

Mato Grosso and the Danube Lowlands carried the volume. The Rift Valley and the Alentejo carried the hardest soils. Every region, every field and every interval is in the dataset linked on this page.

A report that only lists the wins is a brochure. This one lists the restatements first.

What we got wrong

Three restatements this year, each published the quarter we found it.

  • Baseline cores too shallow on sandy Saxony soils, 2022 vintage restated down 6%
  • Cloud gaps in Alentejo winter imagery, gap-filling model retired
  • 112 grower payouts past 30 days after a registry delay, paid with interest

What changes in 2026

Depth-split sampling to 60 cm on sandy strata, a hard four-pass minimum per season, and weekly issuance batches so that no payout waits for a quarter end.
