Why Canopis

Most soil carbon programmes ask growers to trust a model. We publish the sample, the satellite pass and the registry link, so nobody has to.

1.2 Mt

CO2e verified and issued, 2022 to 2025

Every tonne links to a project page with its sampling plan and VVB statement.

Why it matters now

Buyers want proof. Growers want to be paid on time.

Scope 3 pressure

Corporate buyers need insetting credits with an audit trail, not a PDF.

Registry scrutiny

Verra and Gold Standard now require sampling density we already exceed.

Grower margins

Input costs are up 30%. Credits paid on issuance change the season.

The story so far

Four seasons, one methodology

2022

Founded

First 180 growers enrolled in the Danube Lowlands. Baseline sampling protocol published.

2023

First issuance

42,000 tCO2e issued through Verra. Payout within 30 days becomes the standard.

2024

Satellite layer

Quarterly 0.3 m practice checks replace annual field visits across all projects.

2025

1.2 Mt verified

Three registries, eleven countries. The 2025 Impact Report publishes every error bar.

“We stopped arguing about models. The sample is the sample, the satellite pass is the pass, and the registry link is public. That is why our buyers signed.”

Questions

Things growers and buyers ask first

Not here? Our agronomists answer within one working day.

How is soil carbon actually measured?
Stratified sampling to 30 cm at enrolment and every two years, lab-analysed for SOC. Between samples, quarterly satellite passes confirm practice change. Both feed the registry methodology.
Who pays for sampling?
Canopis does. Sampling, lab analysis and verification are recovered from the credit at issuance, so there is no upfront cost and no minimum hectares.
Which registries do you issue through?
Verra VCS, Gold Standard and Puro.earth. The registry is chosen per project with the growers, and every issued credit links back to its project page.
How fast are growers paid?
Within 30 days of issuance, in local currency. Payouts are batched weekly and every payment is visible in the grower dashboard.
Can buyers audit a credit?
Yes. Every serial opens the sampling plan, the satellite passes and the VVB statement behind it. The audit pack is downloadable from each project page.
