About the role

Own the sampling design and the uncertainty model behind every tonne, and write the next version of the methodology.

Methodology v3.1 came out of two restatements. The next version should come out of better science, not another mistake. You will design how we sample, how deep we core and how wide the interval is before a tonne is issued.

What you will do

  • Design stratified sampling plans for new regions and soil types
  • Maintain the uncertainty model and publish it with each vintage
  • Review lab results and chain of custody across four labs
  • Write the methodology change log and defend it to verifiers

What you bring

  • A PhD or equivalent in soil science or biogeochemistry
  • Field sampling experience on at least two continents
  • Comfort with Bayesian models and with explaining them to growers
  • Published work on soil organic carbon measurement

What we offer

  • A permanent role at the centre of the method
  • Conference and publication budget
  • Equity in Canopis after the first year
