The challenge

Sixty growers with holdings from 400 to 6,000 hectares, a wet spring that delayed sampling by five weeks, and a registry baseline deadline.

What we did

Three sampling crews ran in parallel through February, with the lab turning cores around in nine days. The baseline was written to the registry on 27 February.

Nobody had sampled our fields before. Now we have a number to argue with.

What the numbers said

No tonnes yet. The baseline is locked, the practice plans are signed and the first full season of passes starts in April.
